Stewart Centre @ EIT Annual Trip
The votes are in. The destination for the 2012 Annual Trip is……….windy Wellington on Sunday 23 September to Friday 28 September. We have now kick started into trip planning and fundraising mode. We have secured accommodation at Wellington Top 10 and a bus is booked. We are now in the midst of getting ideas for activities so we can put together an itinerary. Keep coming back and see where we are up to with our trip planning. Please see the different ways in which we are fundraising under ‘fundraising’ in ‘News and Events’.

Fundraising
We will have what is coming up in the way of fundraising listed here. Please help us where you can. Fundraising Walk The Stewart Centre @ EIT is doing a fundraising walk to raise money towards our annual trip. This year our destination is Wellington. The walk is on Thursday 7 June, 1:00 pm at Anderson Park, Greenmeadows. Starting at the Auckland Road carpark for a gold coin donation. This is a completely accessible course so it is great for wheelchairs, walkers, sticks, fast walkers, slow walkers, and any walkers. We’d love to see you there.

Manawatu Exchange – Foxton Trip
By Kim Herd It was a very small group that made the trip from EIT to Foxton on the 3rd of April. As had been the norm of late the weather was unsettled but we did not let that stop us on our adventure. We were on schedule to arrive on time at our destination until we got lost somewhere out the back of beyond, even with 2 Samsung smart phones and a map. We had a very friendly reunion with the Manawatu Stewart Centre. The bible camp was an excellent place to stay with great facilities. The activities included [...]

BBQ Workshop
Annie organised a BBQ workshop with the BBQ Guru, Raymond van Rijk. This was on Monday 16th April and the following Monday 23rd April. You may have seen Raymond at shows like the Homeshow. He is often at them BBQing with his range of rubs etc – “Raymonds BBQ Gourmet Rub” We kicked off the first session with ‘Drunkin Chicken’ and you don’t want to know what Raymond did with the beer can after sculling half the contents. We also did fish steamed in a foil parcel, steak, chicken in a satay sauce and we topped it off with pineapple [...]

Boccia
By Annie Spiekerman It was a perfect day to have the Boccia tournament. The rain was bucketing down, we were nice and dry at the Centennial Hall in Napier. Another great event organised by Sport Hawke’s Bay. Stewart Centre @ EIT entered two teams a girls and boys team. Brian, Tony, Peter managed to win their competition. Krystal, Suzanne and Joanne managed second position. I dropped the big thermos and it shattered in a million pieces. Luckily it happened when lunch was finished. A thank you to Anita who drove through the rain to drop off Joanne and had her [...]

Indoor Bowls
By Brian Jefferies The Stewart Centre @ EIT had two teams in the Indoor Bowls Sports Tournament on Tuesday 27th March at Pettigrew Green Arena. We all had a really good time. It didn’t matter if we won or not, it was just being part of it. I found it quite challenging but I’ve learnt quite a bit about myself after participating. Peter Mewburn who was on my team has played indoor bowls for other clubs outside this competition. He always told us when our bowling was ‘Rubbish’. The ladies helping out were so patient. They were awesome. This was [...]

BIA Family Support & Education Group
This is for people who have a family member or friend with a Brain Injury. Learn coping strategies, gain education and support from professionals. It is the first Tuesday of the month at 7 pm. For enquires or to register interest, contact the Liaison Officer on 06 878 6875 Or email liaison@braininjury.hb.co.nz I think this is a brilliant idea. My husband couldn’t take time off work so he missed all the vital information to [...]

Turangi Trip 2011
Every year the Stewart Centre @ EIT goes on an Annual trip to a destination within New Zealand decided by voting. It is a vital part of our rehabilitation. This year our destination was Turangi. Yes, Turangi. Believe it or not there is quite a lot to do in Turangi, well around Turangi anyway. We all loaded the bus and left for Turangi on Sunday morning 2 October. It was raining soon after we got there and when I say rain, I mean thunder and lightning but that didn’t stop us from doing anything. While there we went to the [...]
