Health and Fitness


Keeping active is great for health, fitness and mobility, but also for confidence and social skills.

Sports Programme
Every Friday afternoon from 1pm to 3pm, there is a sports programme at the Hastings Sports Stadium in Railway Road. A variety of equipment is made available for clients to use. Students from a local Boys High School join in most Fridays. Family members, caregivers, and Brain Injury Association Hawke’s Bay (BIAHB)  members are always welcome to join in.

Sports played are:

  • Basketball
  • Soccer
  • T Ball
  • Hockey
  • Badminton
  • Table Tennis
  • Volleyball

Gym Programme
We have Gym Programmes which run on:

  • Monday afternoons
  • Tuesday mornings from 10.30am to 12 noon
  • Tuesday afternoons from 1pm to 3pm
  • Thursday afternoons

These are held at Pettigrew Green Arena which is over the road from EIT Hawke’s Bay. Aly coordinates this programme with Steven.

To be part of the Gym Programme, clients must have a clearance from either a physiotherapist or their General Practitioner (GP). Clients’ programmes are assessed at least annually by a neuro physiotherapist who may also assist in establishing an appropriate individual programme for clients.
